Title: Christmas Wordle Competition
Post by: Slim on December 07, 2025, 09:34:51 PM
Should we have one? On what date should it conclude? Dec 24th? Same rules as usual? Any ideas for an enhancement?

Very happy to keep score and maintain the spreadsheet, just want to make sure we aren't getting Wordle Competition Fatigue. More than up for it myself, though.

Yep I'm in.. how about a double score for Christmas Eve if that's the last day.. also Noppers starts at -10 to give the rest of us a fighting chance😀

Count me in. Fishy beat me to the Nop suggestion. I was thinking of a two line handicap in the Welsh language version. 😂 He'd probably still stroll it.

I'll play. Welsh.. c'mon, Let's do Dutch, see how you like that.

I played the Dutch version for fun a couple of times way back if you remember. I think I scraped a lucky line six once. Guessing the actual existence of words isn't a great tactic for success. 😀

Wow! The Wordle thread has been going close on four years now. How did that happen?

Yes it needs a restart, perhaps on Jan 1st.

Anyway - I suggest we commence on Dec 15th then, with the final, double score round taking place on Dec 24th. Everyone happy with that?

Good! Thought of a new start word to stick with for the duration.

Yep I'm in, and will either finish in the bottom two or fluke it to the top two if previous competitions are anything to go by. :)

Just a reminder that this starts tomorrow (Dec 15th) with Wordle 1640! I will publish the spreadsheet and put a link here and in my sig.

Best of luck, everyone.

Bit late with this but I think everyone knows the drill now. The competition starts today, three entries are already in the spreadsheet (in my sig by the time you read this). The concluding day is Dec 24th, Wordle 1649.

Yep and after the first round the table stands as:

If anyone else wants to dip their toe let me know, happy to add another row.

Right, thanks to everyone who took part. The final table looks like this, with the final day's score being doubled. And it's a tie!
Congrats to Reg and Nop, and thanks to Dom for propping up the table, so I didn't have to. The last-day-counts-double rule made a critical difference to the top of the table.

Woohoo! I am honoured to be tied with the trademarker of our scoring system.

Well done Reg!

Thanks for organizing this one James, until the next one

Thanks for organising James and well done to everyone for being better than me! Congratulations to Nop and Reg for topping the table! It was all quite close though!

Well done Nop actually. I took 4 attempts today, not 3 so sadly I should be in 2nd place with 37 points I believe.

I had a good run though in the latter half.

Thanks to all and have a great Christmas folks!

Apologies, I need to think of a better protocol to check the scores.

Pen and paper for you next year James I fear. 😂🤣

Sorry. Couldn't resist, such is my jealousy of the technically gifted.

Picnic, since you were the first person to spot a mistake - perhaps you could cast a second eye over the spreadsheet each round next time?

Well, indeed it is a dish best served cold.😁
